Detailed statistics are available in the ABS publication Estimates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. This brief summarises a few key points.
As of 30th June 2016 the Indigenous population of the Territory was estimated to be 74,546, representing 30.3% of the Territory’s total population. The Indigenous population has grown by 5,696 (or 8.3%) since 2011; the non-Indigenous population grew by 8,690 (or 5.3%) over the same period. The graph below shows the size of the Territory’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations in 2011 and 2016.
