Roger Hunt
Roger Hunt is an Australian palliative care specialist based in Adelaide. He was educated at Flinders University, the Royal Australian College of Physicians and Adelaide University (Hunt, n.d.; Hunt, 2022), and was awarded an MD by published work, Epidemiology of Terminal Care in SA (Healthcare Professionals for Assisted Dying Choice, [n.d.]).
Among other achievements, Hunt has published extensively on clinical and ethical aspects of palliative medicine. He was a member of both the Victorian Ministerial Advisory Panel and the Western Australian Ministerial Expert Panel that led to voluntary assisted dying (VAD) legislation in their respective states (Healthcare Professionals for Assisted Dying Choice, [n.d.]).
Hunt is supportive of voluntary euthanasia. At the Australian Palliative Care Conference 2017, Dr. Hunt joined a panel discussing voluntary assisted dying and its implications for palliative care. He was quoted as saying there has been a history of “fear-mongering” around the issue, and noted Aboriginal communities were warned of a “second Holocaust” when the Rights of the Terminally Ill Bill 1995 was approved in the Northern Territory (McInerney, 2017).
