Malcolm McDougal Fisher is a retired doctor who is best known for his leadership in intensive care and end-of-life care.
Educated in New Zealand and Australia, Fisher was Head of the Intensive Therapy Unit at Sydney's North Shore Hospital from 1983-2003. He also served as a member of the New South Wales Clinical Council, and was an adviser to six Ministers of Health and two Directors General of Health, with expertise in intensive care, systems to detect and manage deterioration in patients, and end-of-life care. He retired after 6 years as an Medical Advisor to the Health Care Complaints Commission (Fisher, n.d).
Fisher was awarded Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List on June 9, 2003, for Services to Intensive Care.
