Gapuwiyak School is located in the community of Gapuwiyak, in East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia. The population of Gapuwiyak is approximately 1200 people. The most common language in Gapuwiyak is Djambarrpuyngu, although many residents speak a number of local languages.
Gapuwiyak school provides education for students from early years through to senior years as well as managing two Homeland Learning Centres (HLCs) at Raymangirr and Donydji . Raymangirr is 50km northeast of Gapuwiyak and Donydji is 90km southwest. Both HLC's provide education for students who are unable to attend the central school.
Gapuwiyak School facilitates an onsite Families as First Teachers Program (FaFT), a Learning on Country Program (LoC), a Vocational Education and Training Program (VET) and a Language Production Centre. The senior secondary classes operate on site and are supported in their delivery by the Northern Territory School of Distance Education (NTSDE) in addition to onsite VET delivery of Conservation and Ecosystem Management.
