The Australian Education Council (AEC) was a voluntary body that existed from 2 March 1936 to 8 February 1994.
It was responsible for carrying out the following functions: " …arrange the mutual exchange of information regarding education in Australia and abroad; …co-operate for the purchase of ensuring the maintenance of high standards of education;…promote, where desirable, the adoption of consistent policies on educational problems;…consider those educational provisions necessary for the development of the individual; and to consider those educational provisions necessary to ensure to continuity of an adequate supply of qualified manpower for industry, commerce and the professions."
In February 1994, the AEC was abolished and its functions transferred to the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs.
