The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), shortened to the Liberal Democrats or Lib Dems, is an Australian political party founded by John Humphreys in 2001. The party supports policies that are based on classical liberal, libertarian principles, such as lower taxes, opposing restrictions on civil liberties, utilising nuclear energy, and the legalisation of assisted suicide (Liberal Democratic Party, 2009).
