David Muir is an Australian solicitor, philanthropist and voluntary assisted dying advocate.
Born in Ilfracombe, in the Longreach area of rural Queensland, Muir attended the Anglican Church Grammar School (now Churchie) in Brisbane from 1966-1972. He studied at the University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1975 and a further Bachelor of Laws in 1978; a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Queensland Institute of Technology came the following year.
Since 2019, Muir has been chairman of the estate of former Lord Mayor Clem Jones, responsible for the distribution of Jones' fortune; a priority has been the support of voluntary assisted dying legislation across Australia.
In 2020, Muir was awarded the Order of Australia; recognised for his involvement in founding roles and leadership positions, including Chairman and President, with organisations including Foodbank Australia, Amnesty International Australia, Amnesty International Queensland, Crime Stoppers Queensland, The Clem Jones Group, Real Republic Australia and the Brisbane Metropolitan Lions Club.
