The Northern Territory’s Declining Share of Australia’s Indigenous Population: A call for a research agenda

Publication TypeResearch BriefAbstractThis research brief examines the Northern Territory’s declining share of the Australian Indigenous population and the consequences of this for financial allocations to the NT Government. We outline the main causes and discuss the effects these are having on the veracity of statistical measurements and indicators for Indigenous Australian’s from ‘denominator shifting’. We highlight the need for a research agenda to better understand the causes and consequences and to re-consider how disadvantage is conceptualised in light of the issues discussed here.
